Winter conditions are upon us here in Tropical North Queensland.
August is generally the coldest month. Along with the low water temp, some unseasonal rain has also come our way!
Quite a few mornings,we have had the rain coats on even!
The good news is that the live bait has been plentiful and with a few throws of the cast net the live tanks are full.
The toughest fish to hook this time of year is the elusive Barramundi. However, the other hard fighters and good table fish ,the Queenfish,Giant Trevelly,Fingermark,Mangrove Jack and Threadfin Salmon have been biting.
I have had to go to smaller hooks and lighter leaders as the predators are a little more weary this time of year.
Rather then the large live baits that work well in the summer, the smaller herring and the occasional fillet bait have been producing solid hook ups.
The Salthouse Restaurant at The Pier has been doing a fantastic job cooking up the fresh catches for our customers.
The full moon is upon us tomorrow and the big incoming morning tides will surely produce solid action for the next 4 to 5 days.
Don’t let the wet conditions discourage you from booking a charter,it is still 25 degrees and the fish are still biting.
Hope to fish with you soon.
